Edmundston, Tuesday, October 1, 2024 – All New Brunswickers deserve equal access to critical digital infrastructure and connectivity. Today, Susan Holt and her team are committed to improving cell phone coverage and high-speed internet in the province to ensure access to digital healthcare, education, and economic development opportunities.
“It’s unacceptable that in 2024, some regions of New Brunswick can’t count on quality, reliable cell phone service or high-speed internet. These services are essential to keep people safe, enable New Brunswickers to access information, and to encourage our businesses to thrive,” said Susan Holt.
With this commitment, the Holt team will enable healthcare providers to use modern technology to offer care, ensure that teachers and students are able to access online resources and provide New Brunswick businesses the tools they need to succeed.
The federal government currently has over $3 billion in funding available for universal high-speed Internet access, but Higgs and the PCs have failed to ensure that New Brunswickers have their fair share, leaving many without access.
“The federal government has spent millions to connect those living in our neighbouring provinces of Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia. While Blaine Higgs has been fighting with Ottawa to score political points, we’re falling behind. Our team will prioritize working with all available partners to get New Brunswickers the access to cell and internet coverage they deserve,” concluded Holt.
A Holt government will take advantage of federal programs to ensure that the 10,000 rural households that don’t have access to high-speed internet get access. We will also work with experts and industry to put a plan in place to ensure wireless cell coverage across the province to reduce public safety risks, which may include building and or enhancing telecom towers.
