Family health team established in Campbellton

December 14, 2025News

A new family health team has been established in Campbellton to strengthen access to primary care in the region.

Based at the Campbellton Medical Centre, the team includes three physicians, a licensed practical nurse and a social worker, with a nurse practitioner scheduled to join the team in October. The team has already assumed care for 2,700 patients, helping to offset the impact of two physician retirements, and aims to provide care for an additional 1,500 to 2,000 patients.

“This team will help thousands of New Brunswickers in Restigouche County get the primary care they need, right here at home,” said Premier Susan Holt. “We committed to Campbellton being one of the first 10 places to get a community care clinic, and we’re proud to be here to do that today. By continuing to invest in the shift to a collaborative, flexible, community-based primary care system, New Brunswickers will get better and faster access to care.”

The provincial government is investing $600,000 in the family health team to support human resources and to fund renovations to the clinic space.

All three physicians completed the Practice Ready Assessment New Brunswick program, which supports internationally trained physicians in becoming licensed to practise in the province.

“Team-based care is not only the model we know we need for better patient care; it also means better support for primary care providers,” said Health Minister John Dornan. “This collaborative model is attractive to physicians and nurse practitioners, and we are proud that the primary care providers coming together to form this team have chosen to practise in our province to provide essential care to New Brunswickers.”

The government has committed to establishing at least 30 local collaborative family health teams across the province. Regional health authorities continue to work with health-care professionals to develop teams that are tailored to the needs of each community.

“The creation of this new family health team is excellent news for access to primary care in the Campbellton region,” said Dr. France Desrosiers, president and CEO of Vitalité Health Network. “We are proud to welcome physicians who have chosen New Brunswick to share their expertise and work together to meet the health needs of our population.”
