Oromocto, September 20, 2024 – Today, Susan Holt and the Liberal team announced that in recognition of their hard work and dedication, a Holt government would give retention payments to New Brunswick nurses. The commitment is one of many intended to fix the healthcare system that has been left in crisis by the Higgs Conservatives.

Details of the nurses’ retention payment include:

  • The retention payment will be $10,000 for the first year and $5000 in year two and will go to all nurse practitioners, registered nurses, and licensed practical nurses employed by Vitalité and Horizon.
  • Nurses who sign a new employment contract and commit to two years will also be entitled to this bonus when they sign their contract.
  • A pro-rated calculation of time worked will determine the bonus for those working part-time.

These retention payments demonstrate our respect and appreciation for the work done by nurses, and it’s only the first step. We will also work to improve good faith bargaining with the union and improve scheduling and working conditions to retain current nurses and recruit new ones. We must start caring for those who are caring for us.

“The Premier’s blatant disrespect of nurses over these past few years is an insult to the people who take care of us. Our healthcare plan is rooted in solving the most pressing challenges in primary care. We will do that by retaining the incredible healthcare workers we have now and by establishing 30 new community care clinics across the province so that New Brunswickers can have access to the care they need when they need it,” concluded the Liberal leader.
