Mark Hambrook

Mark Hambrook was born in Renous. He is married and has three sons and two grandchildren. He lives in Cassilis, NB.

Mark graduated from Blackville High School and had a degree from UNB. He worked for Fisheries and Oceans Canada, in salmon conservation, for 18 years during which he became one of the first recipients of the DFO Gulf Region Merit Award for improving community relations. He also received a Deputy Minister’s Commendation Award for working with other government agencies.

Mark left the DFO when the Miramichi Fish Hatchery, where he was a manager, was privatized. For the next 25 years, he was the hatchery manager and president of the Miramichi Salmon Association.

Mark received the Happy Fraser Award from Atlantic Salmon Federation for salmon conservation and will receive the NB Lieutenant Governor’s Award for salmon conservation this fall.

Mark’s past community involvement includes:

  • Renous-Quarryville Fire Department – volunteer firefighter when he lived in Renous
  • Miramichi Tourism Association – Director
  • NB Salmon Council – Director and President

His current community involvement includes:

  • Atlantic Salmon Museum – Director
  • Miramichi River Environmental Organization – Director
  • Miramichi Watershed Management Committee – Director and VP
