Dr. John Dornan

Saint John Portland-Simonds

Social

As a widely known and consulted specialist in the fields of Endocrinology, Internal Medicine and ICU for over 37 years John has been intimately involved in acute health care delivery in New Brunswick. Strategic alliances have enabled him to start the first New Brunswick based specialist  training program, a pinnacle accomplishment. His progressive leadership ability has led to the amalgamation of many smaller surgical disciplines into one surgery department in the Saint John Area. Amalgamation of Horizon wide departments started under Dr. Dornan’s leadership.

As Horizon’s CEO, he assembled a competent expert team that has advanced care in our province. Starting a Regional Program Management structure is an important and significant evolution in a large Regional Health Authority, one of the bigger RHAs in Canada.

Dr. Dornan listens to people from Portland-Simonds, and they are clear in their desire to provide more health care access to New Brunswickers. Access to health care is one of the drivers of community businesses and investment. He has developed a collaborating relationship with professional groups, including our doctors, nurses and others. Yet thousands of New Brunswickers don’t have access to reliable primary care! John’s passion is to help the government of New Brunswick create collaborative teams that include nurses, doctors, nurse practitioners, social workers, physiotherapists and others. John’s extensive clinical acumen and progressive leadership skills, by practice and an MBA will support the Holt team’s support of New Brunswickers!

Portland-Simonds is a diverse community that includes Crescent Valley, Millidgeville, the North End and a large part of Simonds between Rothesay Avenue, Loch Lomond Rd and Consumers Dr. It also includes the Glen Falls subdivision. John has been knocking on doors to listen to the priorities, concerns and suggestions of new and established homeowners and renters. While Health Care, Education and cost-of-living dominate, our residents have many other valuable suggestions.

John has lived in the riding for 34 years, his wife Gail for most of her life. Their children, Robin and Andrew, enjoyed active lives through Millidgeville North school, St. Malachy’s High School and UNB. An avid but slow runner, John has run 26 marathons, including Saint John’s inaugural Marathon by the Sea. His friends and dog Jack run and walk the trails of Rockwood Park regularly. He keeps bees in his back yard and enjoys a modest harvest annually!
