Saint John, September 11, 2024 – Speaking to the Saint John Region Chamber of Commerce this afternoon, Susan Holt, Leader of the New Brunswick Liberal Party committed to fiscal responsibility. “A Holt government will deliver balanced budgets every year of its mandate and continue to pay down the provincial debt. New Brunswickers have told us they want a government that makes sound financial decisions for today and into the future – we will.”
Despite attacks from Higgs Conservatives questioning Holt’s budgetary priorities, she has repeatedly demonstrated that strategic, responsible fiscal management will be a hallmark of the next Liberal government.
Unlike Blaine Higgs and Ernie Steeves who play smoke and mirrors with New Brunswick’s fiscal projections, a Holt government will balance the budget and ensure accurate forecasting of the province’s public finances to restore the trust of New Brunswickers in the budget process.
Taking care of people and the economy
The Holt team is committed to a balanced approach that equally weighs the important services New Brunswickers depend on with the province’s growth and financial stability.
“There’s an important link between our economic growth and the well-being of everyone in the province. We currently have the second-lowest GDP per capita in North America. We are falling behind in our economy. Managing our budget responsibly doesn’t mean refusing to invest in growth,” says Liberal Finance critic Rene Legacy.
A Holt government will bring a strong team focused on the bottom line while investing in the services that matter deeply to New Brunswickers and their families. “We can ensure that every New Brunswicker has access to primary healthcare, no child goes to school hungry, and pay down our provincial debt,” said Holt.
