Statement on mandatory vaccination

August 20, 2021News

“Vaccines are the best tool we have to fight against the ongoing global pandemic. If we are finally seeing a light at the end of the tunnel, it is thanks to vaccination. I believe every single person who is able to get immunized against Covid-19 should do so as soon as possible to protect not only themselves, but also their loved ones.

As we begin our return to normal, it is important to remember that Covid-19 and its variants are still a serious threat to public health. The virus is highly contagious and can be deadly, it is imperative that we continue to do our part in limiting the spread of the virus.

Children under 12 years old are not currently eligible for a Covid-19 vaccine, which puts them at risk of catching and spreading the virus. With back to school just around the corner, we must think about how to keep children safe, and do everything in our power to keep Covid-19 out of classrooms and daycares.

That is why the Liberal Opposition fully supports the mandatory vaccination or testing policy for provincial government employees. We recognize that it is a person’s right to choose whether they want to receive the vaccine, however, people also have the right to work in a safe environment. If an individual chooses not to be vaccinated, they must wear a mask in the workplace and undergo regular Covid-19 testing.”
