Statement on CUPE negotiations

September 10, 2021News

“Given the current stalemate between the Higgs government and CUPE, the Official Opposition is urging the premier to return to the negotiating table as soon as possible. The government’s latest tactic of using tax dollars to pay for an expensive and ill-advised ad campaign against the union smacks of bad faith.  We know that CUPE members who serve New Brunswickers in important roles in the health care, education and other sectors want to keep doing their jobs.  Fair and reasonable offers to unions in current contract talks with this government are essential if there is to be a solution to the crisis in the health care sector and looming crises in other sectors. With so many collective agreements remaining to be negotiated, we expect Premier Higgs to show real leadership, call the parties back to the table and avert further disruption in the delivery of public services.”
