Statement by Roger Melanson on the arrival of COVID-19 variants

“For over a year now, New Brunswickers have been pulling together to fight the worst health and economic crisis the world has experienced in over 100 years. We are tired but we can’t give up now. On behalf of the Official Opposition, I urge all New Brunswickers to remain vigilant: wash your hands, wear a mask, practice physical distancing, do not travel unnecessarily, limit your contact with others as much as possible, and make an appointment for a vaccine when it’s your turn.
The arrival of COVID-19 variants means that we are at a critical point in this battle. If we are going to get through this very difficult period, we each need to take on a leadership role in our families, our communities and our province and do the right thing.
What is tragically happening in the Edmundston region can happen anywhere – our thoughts and prayers go to the people of Zone 4 and to all who have suffered because of COVID-19. There is a path forward and the vaccines will help but for those you love, for your neighbours and friends, and for our province, please do the right thing now: follow Public Health orders.”
