NB Liberals nominate Cindy Miles in Hanwell-New Maryland

August 1, 2024News

July 31, 2024 (Hanwell) – Liberals gathered in the riding of Hanwell New Maryland to nominate Cindy Miles as their candidate for the next provincial election.

The hotly contested nomination saw three candidates vying for the Liberal banner – Clint Kingsbury, Cindy Miles, and Kevin Dignam. Once all the ballots were cast and counted, Cindy Miles was declared the winner.

As the event kicked off, surrounded by over 100 local supporters and candidates, Susan Holt, leader of the NB Liberal Party shared what she’s been hearing during hundreds of conversations with New Brunswick voters on her summer tour. “We are hearing from New Brunswickers all around the province that people are struggling to make ends meet. No one should have to choose between putting gas in the tank and buying groceries to feed their families. A Holt government will immediately establish a rent cap, remove the provincial tax off home electricity bills, make gas more affordable by removing the Higgs carbon adjuster, and introduce a universal school food program in our schools.”

Cindy is a passionate advocate for children’s rights and has dedicated over a decade to improving care for youth and families. With a Political Science degree from St. Thomas University, she co-created Dots NB and now serves as Director of Community and Government Partnerships at Partners for Youth Inc. Her work on youth mental health programs and public safety initiatives highlights her commitment to positive change. Cindy’s dedication and leadership make her an invaluable advocate for her community.

When addressing the crowd after her win, Miles said “I’m thrilled to be joining Team Holt. New Brunswickers need a government that will genuinely listen to them, and bring positive, collaborative change to our province. I look forward to working with this incredible team to tackle the big challenges facing our province like healthcare and education. I love this community of Hanwell-New Maryland, and I will work tirelessly to listen to your concerns and be your strong voice in the Legislature.”

In closing the event, Holt said, “I want to thank all three of these amazing candidates, Cindy, Clint, and Kevin for putting their names forward. We are stronger when we work together and it is this united team that will earn the trust of New Brunswickers. No matter where you live, no matter what language you speak, and no matter who you love, every voice deserves to be heard and respected.”
