Legislative Assembly voted unanimously, urging government to work with the New Brunswick Nurses Union, the Nurses Association of New Brunswick, regional health authorities, University of New Brunswick, Université de Moncton, and community colleges to create a strategy for training, recruiting, retaining and supporting nurses.

“I am extremely pleased with the turn of events and the support of all MLAs in the Legislative Assembly for my motion,” said Jean-Claude D’Amours, MLA for Edmundston-Madawaska Centre and Official Opposition Health Critic.

According to MLA D’Amours, New Brunswick is at a crossroads and today is the time to present a clear plan to find permanent solutions to an alarming situation. New Brunswick will need to recruit more than 2,400 nurses over the next five years, not counting other health professions. “We need to make sure our graduates can find jobs here without having to leave our province and we will have to convince those who have left to come home,” said the MLA for Edmundston-Madawaska Centre.
