Fredericton, NB – Today, Susan Holt and her team were the first of the political parties to unveil their 2024 election platform. “Focused on You,” outlines a balanced and targeted plan to tackle the province’s pressing healthcare crisis and rising cost of living.

Healthcare: Community Care Clinics and Support for Healthcare Workers

A Holt government will tackle the province’s healthcare challenges that have left 180,000 New Brunswickers without access to primary care. It will establish at least 30 community care clinics across the province to help cut wait times. These clinics will offer collaborative care from doctors, nurses, mental health professionals, and other healthcare providers under one roof, ensuring New Brunswickers can access care when they need it, close to home.

“I have traveled from one corner of this province to the other and back again and New Brunswickers are all telling me the same thing: healthcare is their number one priority. By tackling the waitlist with the collaborative clinics that doctors, nurses and patients have been asking for, we’ll take pressure off our hospitals and ERs and shorten wait times” said Liberal Leader Susan Holt. “This platform puts forward a concrete plan for how we will fix the healthcare system left in crisis by the Higgs’ PCs,” said Leader Susan Holt.

Other healthcare commitments include retention payments for nurses to combat staffing shortages and a plan to cut the wait times for timely access to mental health services.

Affordability: Tackling the Cost of Living

Amidst skyrocketing living costs, Holt’s plan will put money back into the pockets of New Brunswickers. The Liberal platform includes cutting the 10% provincial tax off power bills, implementing a universal school food program, and scrapping the Higgs gas tax.

In response to the housing crisis in the province, the platform includes a rent cap to protect renters from steep increases and the removal of the provincial sales tax on new housing construction to encourage more housing developments, and a comprehensive reform of New Brunswick’s broken property tax system.

“This platform is a clear plan that outlines real solutions to the concerns we have heard about on the ground from people across the province,” added Holt. “It is a reflection of the kind of government we will be: one that listens, one that acts, and one that delivers results for every New Brunswicker.”
