Premier Brian Gallant, who is also Leader of the New Brunswick Liberal Party, was present at the nomination and commended LePage on his community engagement in the riding. “Gilles has been working hard on advancing the economy, education and health care in the Restigouche region for a long time. He is a real asset to the team as he is a strong voice for the north of our province,” said Gallant.
Gilles LePage was first elected to the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick as the member for the new riding of Restigouche West in the September 22, 2014, election. In June 2016, he was appointed Vice-Chair of the Legislative Instruments and Regulations Board. On September 5, 2017, he was appointed Minister of Labour, Employment and Population Growth. He also chairs the Standing Committee on Economic Policy.
Mr. LePage has been involved in the community as a coach, executive director, and Chef de mission for the Jeux de l’Acadie. Through this experience, he met his wife Johanne, with whom he has two daughters, Valérie and Myriam. He now resides in Balmoral. He has 25 years of experience in community and economic development. After eight years at the helm of the Société des Jeux de l’Acadie, Mr. LePage worked as an economic development officer for the Restigouche Economic Development Commission. He then worked in the private sector as a dispatcher and personnel manager at Dynamic Transport. He was Executive Director of the Village of Balmoral from 2001 to 2008, before taking the position of sustainable development manager for the same municipality, a position he held until March 2014. He was also coordinator of the Restigouche-East community action plan from 2010 to 2011.
Gilles LePage said he was honoured to receive the uncontested endorsement from the members of Restigouche West. “It has been an honour and a privilege to represent my constituents from Restigouche West. I look forward to continuing to build on the progress we’ve made in the Restigouche region” said LePage. “I’m particularly proud of our strong commitments towards economic development, as well as our Premier’s commitment to maintain all of our rural hospitals.”
