Ten new affordable housing units at two properties in Moncton are ready to welcome tenants.
“Improving housing options for all New Brunswickers remains one of our government’s biggest priorities,” said David Hickey, minister responsible for the New Brunswick Housing Corporation. “We want to empower our citizens with safe, sustainable housing options, and I want to thank everyone involved in these projects for making that possible.”
One project, a building on Norwood Avenue, will feature eight supportive housing units, in partnership with the Department of Social Development, the Salvus Clinic and the United Way of Greater Moncton and Southeastern New Brunswick. Tenants will have 24-hour on-site support related to independent living skills, budgeting and financial literacy, education and employment, mental health, addictions and primary health-care.
“A home is more than just a place to live; it’s a foundation for everything else in life,” said Social Development Minister Cindy Miles. “It provides safety, stability and a sense of belonging. I am so heartened to see these units ready for tenants, and I thank all our partners in this important work for their collaboration and vision for New Brunswickers.”
The second project is a modular duplex on McLaughlin Drive, with each unit having two bedrooms. It will be home to two families in the coming weeks.
Building more affordable housing is one of several initiatives undertaken by the New Brunswick Housing Corporation to address the province’s housing needs.
