Serge Rousselle, Q.C., was first elected to the Legislative Assembly on September 22, 2014, as MLA for the Tracadie-Sheila riding. He was sworn in on October 7, 2014, as Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development and Attorney General. In June 2016, he was appointed Minister of Environment and Local Government. He still serves as Attorney General. He is a member of the Priorities Board, the Jobs Board, the Legislative Instruments and Regulations Board, the Policy Board, and the Treasury Board.

He is also Chair of the Standing Committee on Law Amendments and a member of the Standing Committee on Procedure, Privileges and Legislative Officers.

He holds undergraduate degrees in political science and law from the University of Ottawa, as well as a master’s degree in law from the University of Cambridge and a doctorate in law from McGill University. After studying abroad, he returned to Tracadie. From 1992 to 2014, he was a professor at the Université de Moncton faculty of law. He served as dean of the faculty from 2000 to 2004.

Mr. Rousselle has also held various positions in organizations at the provincial, federal, and international levels. Among other positions, he was head of the Bureau des Amériques of the Agence universitaire de la Francophonie, President of the Council of Canadian Law Deans, and President of the Association des juristes d’expression française du Nouveau-Brunswick.
