Brian Murphy, QC, the President of the New Brunswick Liberal Association has announced the candidate nomination dates for the provincial ridings of Southwest Miramichi–Bay du Vin and Miramchi Bay–Neguac.

The candidate nomination date for Southwest Miramichi-Bay du Vin has been set as April 9, 2022 and the candidate nomination date for Miramichi Bay-Neguac has been set for April 10, 2022.

“There is a growing excitement about the upcoming by-elections”, said Murphy. “These ridings have been without representation in the provincial legislature for far too long and the good people of the Miramichi region deserve to have elected representatives who can look after their interests.”

The nominations will both be virtual events and members will have the opportunity to vote either online or by telephone. All members will be required to register to vote.

Interim Liberal Leader, Roger Melanson, indicated that to date, each of ridings has two official candidates. In Southwest Miramichi-Bay du Vin, the candidates for nomination are Valerie Fitzpatrick and Hannah Fulton Johnston. In Miramichi Bay-Neguac, the candidates for nomination are Derek Hutchison and Shawn Wood.

“We are pleased to have such high-quality candidates announce their intentions to seek these Liberal nominations”, said Melanson. “The Higgs government has turned its back on the region. It has put its interests ahead of anything else. People want MLAs that will put the interests of their constituents and their communities first. That is a commitment made by our party and by our candidates”.
