FREDERICTON – The New Brunswick Liberal Association held a nomination convention Tuesday night for the next provincial election on September 24, 2018. Susan Holt was nominated as the Liberal candidate for Fredericton South in an uncontested meeting.

Premier Brian Gallant, who is also Leader of the New Brunswick Liberal Party, was present at the nomination and commended Holt on her community engagement in the riding. “Susan understands the importance of economic growth for the people of New Brunswick,” said Gallant. “Her experience in the private sector and within government makes her a strong addition to the Liberal team.”

Susan Holt was raised in the riding of Fredericton South, scooping ice cream at Tingley’s and performing environmental assessments for Washburn & Gillis. After earning degrees in both Chemistry and Economics, Susan began a career in technology that took her to Toronto and Ottawa, as well as Australia and India, working for companies including Xerox, HP and Cognos/IBM.

Susan returned to Fredericton in 2007 to work for local startup Chalk Media, which eventually got acquired by Canadian tech giant Blackberry. She then took on business advocacy leadership positions, first as CEO of the Fredericton Chamber of Commerce, and then as CEO of the New Brunswick Business Council. Most recently Susan has been working as a senior civil servant in the role of Chief of Business Relationships with the Jobs Board Secretariat.

Susan has been an active community volunteer, involved with a number of important organizations- from lending her business acumen to UNB’s International Business and Entrepreneurship Centre, the Pond-Deshpande Centre and the Loran Scholars program, to fundraising for cystic fibrosis, the Fredericton food bank, the Canadian Cancer Society and many more. She has volunteered her time for the Fredericton Playhouse, the Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival, the Joint Economic Development Initiative, Junior Achievement and the New Brunswick Lung Association.

“I am honoured to be the Liberal candidate for Fredericton South, and eager to collaborate with the people in this riding to build a more open and connected community and province,” said Susan Holt.

This nomination brings the party closer to its goal that women make up 50% of the candidates nominated in unheld ridings in the next provincial election. Eight of the twelve currently nominated candidates in those ridings are women.

The list of official contestants for nominations is available on the New Brunswick Liberal Party’s website at nbliberal.ca.
