MIRAMICHI – The New Brunswick Liberal Association held a nomination convention Thursday night for the next provincial election on September 24, 2018.  Bill Fraser was nominated as the Liberal candidate for Miramichi in an uncontested meeting.  Fraser is the current MLA for Miramichi.

 

Premier Brian Gallant, who is also Leader of the New Brunswick Liberal Party, was present at the nomination and commended Fraser on his work for the riding “Bill Fraser cares deeply about the people on the Miramichi and all New Brunswickers. He has worked hard to deliver economic growth, stronger educational opportunities, and improved health care delivery for Miramichi and New Brunswick” said Gallant.

 

Mr. Fraser was first elected to the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick in the September 18, 2006, provincial election as the Liberal Member for the riding of Miramichi-Bay du Vin. He was re-elected to the 58th Legislature on September 22, 2014, to represent the new riding of Miramichi. On October 7, 2014, he was sworn in as Minister of Tourism, Heritage and Culture and the Minister responsible for the Northern and Miramichi Funds. On June 6, 2016 he was appointed to his new role as Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure and Minister responsible for the Northern and Miramichi Funds. On September 6, 2017, he was appointed to additional roles as minister responsible for Intergovernmental Affairs, minister responsible for the Regional Development Corporation and regional minister for Central New Brunswick.

 

Mr. Fraser has served his community in a variety of ways. He has served as a board member of Miramichi Regional Development Corporation, Greater Miramichi Chamber of Commerce, Northumberland Business Advisory Centre, Chatham Non-Profit Housing, Miramichi Task Force and Historic Water Street Business District.  He has been a volunteer with Canada Day Committees, White Gold Festival, Christmas Parades and Tall Ships. He has been a member of the Miramichi Rotary Club, Chatham Lion’s Club, and the city’s economic development committee.

Bill Fraser said he was honoured to receive the uncontested endorsement from Miramichi. “Representing the wonderful people of Miramichi has been an honour and a privilege.  I very much appreciate the opportunity to proudly continue the great work we are doing in our riding” said Fraser.
