2. Where should I stay?

Members are encouraged to take advantage of discounted rooms at the Hilton Saint John. There are a limited amount of rooms available, so reserve soon using code LIBE19. Click here to reserve.

3. What is the ‘Intent to Vote’ form”?

All individuals who wish to vote in the Leadership process must complete an ‘Intent to Vote’ form by May 23, 2019. Forms must be received by 4:30 pm at the NBLA Office or by 11:59 pm through the NBLA website. Both new and current members of the provincial Liberal Party must complete a form.

4. I can’t make it to the convention, how else can I vote?

Attending the Convention in Saint John is not necessary to vote. Voting will be open for seven (7) days prior to the Convention and can be done online or by phone. If there are more than two candidates, the vote will be by preferential ballot.  To be eligible to vote you must complete an ‘Intent to Vote’ form by May 23, 2019.

5. What is a preferential ballot/ranked ballot?
If there are more than two candidates for the leadership, each Registered Voter shall be asked to rank the Candidates in order of preference. With their first choice marked with the number one (1), and their second choice marked with the number two (2), and so forth. Should no Candidate receive more than 50% on the first count, then the votes shall be tabulated on a second count and the Candidate who received the lowest number of points on the first count shall not be included in the list of Candidates for the second count; this process continues until one Candidate receives more than 50% .  More details can be found on page 6 of the Rules Governing the 2019 New Brunswick Liberal Leadership Convention

6. I’m already a member of the NB Liberal party, why do I need to fill out an ‘Intent to Vote’ form?

All individuals, including current members, are required to complete an ‘Intent to Vote’ form. This ensures a final list of eligible voters represents a current list of active members of the Party and allows the NBLA to accurately assign each member to their respective riding based on their current address. Additionally, given that each voter will be sent a unique PIN that will be used to vote either online or by phone, having updated contact information for each member is vital to the integrity of the process.  This is also the same process that was used in the 2012 leadership selection process.

7. How will my vote be counted/weighed?

Each riding is given the same amount of points in the counting of the ballots. This means that each riding will have the same weight when the votes from members of their riding are counted. This is the same method that was adopted by the membership and used in the last Leadership selection process in 2012. It ensures the successful candidate will have to receive more than 50% of members across the province.  More detail on how the ballots will be weighted can be found on page 6 of the Rules Governing the 2019 New Brunswick Liberal Leadership Convention

8. Will I receive a package with voting information?

Yes, all individuals who have submitted a completed ‘Intent to Vote’ form before the May 23rd cut-off date, will be sent important information on how to vote either by email or mail.  Those who have provided an updated email address will be able to receive their information more quickly.

9. Is there a fee to register to vote?

There is no cost to vote in the process. There is a cost to attend the Fundraising Reception as well as the Saturday Convention in Saint John.

10. How long will I have to vote?
Voting will be open for seven days prior to the convention. Each voter will be sent a unique PIN which will be used to vote either online or by phone.
