March 23 (Miramichi) – Liberals gathered in the riding of Miramichi Bay-Neguac Saturday to nominate Sam Johnston as their candidate for the next provincial election.

As the event began, Leader of the Liberal Party of New Brunswick Susan Holt said “One man in Fredericton cannot successfully lead our province. We have to stop making decisions in Fredericton, get out into the communities and include local leaders in the decision making process. We need teamwork that makes space for our unique communities and Sam Johnston is the one to lead that charge here in Miramichi Bay-Neguac.”

Miramichi Bay-Neguac is the twelfth riding where the Liberal Party is holding a nominating convention leading up to the next election. Sam is a passionate community leader, a master martial arts instructor, has professional experience as Executive Director on the Atlantic Region manager team for Correctional Services of Canada and currently serves as a Miramichi City Councillor.

Following the win, Johnston said “There are many people struggling in our riding right now, they are struggling to make ends meet from month to month. We need to make decisions to help alleviate their financial pressures, which is why I fully support the removal of the provincial portion of the tax on power bills.” Johnston went on to say, “We are on the verge of incredible change, a new vision. We will make history when Susan Holt becomes the next Premier of NB surrounded by an incredible team that I am so proud to be joining.”

In closing the event, surrounded by over a hundred local supporters, members of her caucus and nominated Liberal candidates, Holt said “Sam Johnston has a huge heart and deep love for the Miramichi, I know he will work hard every day to earn the trust and confidence of the people of Miramichi Bay-Neguac. I am thrilled to have him join our team of dynamic, compassionate candidates.”
