“I was deeply concerned to read the report of a ‘grossly neglected’ private long-term care home in the province. According to information obtained by Brunswick News through a Right to Information request, there were many significant issues detected during a 2021 inspection of the home, including ‘heavily soiled’ floors, extensive moisture damage and mould, just to name a few.

While the Department of Social Development says that the operator of the home only received their renewed license after taking the necessary steps to meet the requirements of the Province, it is still troubling that a facility in New Brunswick was operating under such conditions and questions remain around current the state of the home. Without knowing the name of the home, it is impossible to know which issues have been addressed.

There were also cleanliness violations in several other homes across the province. Citizens living in long-term care facilities in the province deserve to live in a safe and healthy environment and it is the responsibility of the Minster of Social Development to ensure that this is respected. It is imperative for Government to analyse the situation in our long-term care sector and make the investments necessary to ensure that these homes are held to appropriate standards.”
