“Yesterday, the Liberal Caucus met to discuss the upcoming legislative session and various issues of importance, including the situation of rotational workers who work in another province and return to New Brunswick every few weeks.

Since January, rotational workers have been forced to self-isolate for 14 days when they return to New Brunswick. They must be completely separated from their families and no longer have the option of shortening their self-isolation period by taking screening tests. Since many workers only stay in New Brunswick for 14 days, sometimes less, many have not seen their families since this measure was put in place.

While we all understand the need to take extraordinary measures to contain the spread of the virus and ensure the safety of our fellow citizens, we must balance this need with the financial and emotional cost to those whose jobs require periods of time away from home and long trips outside of New Brunswick.

Now that all health zones in the province are in the yellow phase and Covid-19 cases are declining, the situation for rotational workers needs to be reassessed.

Our Interim Leader, Roger Melanson, will once again discuss this issue at the Covid-19 all-party committee.”
