Scoudouc (August 18, 2020) – New Brunswick Liberal Party leader, Kevin Vickers, today announced the nomination of Robert Gauvin as the Liberal candidate for the riding of Shediac Bay-Dieppe in the September 14 general election.

“We are delighted and honoured to welcome Robert to the Liberal family,” said Vickers.  “Robert’s values and principles are entirely aligned with our party.  He is committed to the protection and promotion of linguistic rights in New Brunswick, a more unified province and the absolute protection of emergency health care services in the province’s hospitals.  Under Blaine Higgs these have all been threatened and its only by working together that we can do better for our province — Robert will bring a strong and effective voice for the people of Shediac Bay-Dieppe to the legislature.”

Gauvin most recently sat as an Independent Member of the Legislative Assembly for the riding of Shippagan-Lamèque-Miscou after having left the Tory caucus as a result of Blaine Higgs’s surprise move to close emergency rooms in a number of rural hospitals. “It’s time to put New Brunswickers first,” said Gauvin.

Blaine Higgs called a general election for September 14 in the middle of a pandemic while New Brunswick parents and students cope with uncertainties around the return to school and all New Brunswickers brace for a second wave of COVID-19 infections.
