With the rapidly rising concern surrounding COVID-19, the Liberal opposition is focusing on the health and well-being of New Brunswickers.

“We are in the midst of an unprecedented situation with the concerns over the spread of the Coronavirus and the need to ensure that the health and safety of people is paramount” says Liberal leader Kevin Vickers. “We believe in the circumstances before us we should not be forcing an election as all efforts need to be focused on a common goal of protecting and supporting New Brunswickers.”

After a meeting with all party leaders yesterday, Liberal Leader Kevin Vickers, with the support of his entire caucus, decided not to vote against the Higgs budget, but rather to abstain from the vote altogether.

“We still do not trust this government to keep its promises and we are concerned that the Premier plans to resurrect his ill thought out health care cuts” says Vickers. “We will be vigilant in continuing to hold this government to account in the days, weeks and months ahead, but for the time being, our focus needs to be the health and well-being of New Brunswickers.”

This agreement should provide some peace of mind to New Brunswickers while the province deals with the coronavirus.

“We will work to ensure that the resources of government are directed at addressing the  Coronavirus and public protection and support” says Vickers. “We have the utmost faith in Dr. Jennifer Russell and the Public Health team and we urge all New Brunswickers to follow their direction and advice.”
