Premier Brian Gallant, leader of the Liberal Party, announced today that a re-elected Liberal Government will maintain its moratorium on hydraulic fracturing, and its ban on the disposal of fracked wastewater.

Gallant also committed, if re-elected, to fully implementing the new water strategy developed by his government in its previous mandate.

Immediately upon taking office in October 2014, The Gallant Government announced its intention to implement a moratorium on hydraulic fracturing until the risks to the environment, water supply and human health could be better understood. Legislation was introduced in December 2014 and came into law in June 2015 to establish the moratorium.
