RIVERVIEW – The New Brunswick Liberal Association held a nomination convention Saturday for the next provincial election on September 24, 2018. Catherine Black was nominated as the Liberal candidate for Albert in an uncontested meeting.

Premier Brian Gallant, who is also Leader of the New Brunswick Liberal Party, was present at the nomination and commended Black on her community engagement in the riding. “Catherine is a strong contributor to the educational community and will certainly be a strong voice for the people of Albert,” said Gallant.

Catherine has been the Regional Director for NBCC’s Moncton Campus since 2014. In addition to her responsibilities as the Regional Director, she took on the responsibilities of the Dean of Trades, Hospitality and Tourism role in 2017. Catherine’s previous role with NBCC was the Head of the Business Department. Before her career in post-secondary education, Catherine held roles in corporate finance, banking and investment management.

Catherine holds a Master of Business Administration from Université de Moncton as well as a Bachelor of Commerce and a Bachelor of Arts (Economics) from Memorial University of Newfoundland. Catherine has had a longstanding interest in civic leadership and the welfare of our communities. She has been an active member of her community as a past board member for the Greater Moncton Chamber of Commerce and chair of its Advocacy Committee, a past board member of the South East Regional Adult Learning Board and past board member of the Moncton Adult Learning Council. Additionally, she has chaired corporate United Way employee campaigns at several of her places of work and stays involved in her children’s school as the treasurer of the Home and School Association. Catherine and her husband, Byron, have made their home in the Albert riding for the past 15 years and together they raise their two children; Gavin, 8, and Charlotte, 5.

Catherine Black said she was honoured to receive the uncontested endorsement from the members of Albert. “ As a proud resident of the Albert riding for the past fifteen years, I am committed to seeing this region grow and prosper. It would be a true honour to use my experience, passion and strong voice to represent the interests of the great people in this riding,” said Black.

This nomination brings the party closer to its goal that women make up 50% of the candidates
nominated in unheld ridings in the next provincial election. 11 of the last 20 currently nominated
candidates in those ridings are women.
