BOUCTOUCHE – The New Brunswick Liberal Association held a nomination convention last Tuesday night for the next provincial election on September 24, 2018. Benoît Bourque was nominated as the Liberal candidate for Kent South in an uncontested meeting.
Premier Brian Gallant, who is also Leader of the New Brunswick Liberal Party, was present at the nomination and commended Bourque on his community engagement in the riding. “His international, national and provincial experience is a great asset to grow the economy and strengthen education for the people of Kent South. In his important role of Minister of Health, he is focused on strengthening health care – a priority of the people of New Brunswick,” said Gallant.
Benoît Bourque was first elected to the Legislative Assembly in the provincial election of September 22, 2014, as member for Kent South. He was appointed Minister of Health in September 2017. He was also appointed minister responsible for Service New Brunswick in May 2018. He served as Chair of the Select Committee on Cannabis, Vice-Chair of the Standing Committee on Estimates and Fiscal Policy was a member of the following standing committees: Public Accounts, Crown Corporations, Law Amendments, Social Policy, and Private Bills.
Mr. Bourque has a bachelor’s degree in high school education from Université de Moncton and a master’s degree in international relations from Université Laval. He has extensive experience in the field of training and teaching as a school teacher, trainer for various workshops and training sessions, and lecturer at Université de Moncton. He worked for about 15 years in international relations and international cooperation in the public, parapublic, and private sectors. His work included being director of the Université de Moncton international relations office from 2003 to 2012 and director of Concordia International at Concordia University, Montreal, in 2012. In addition to visiting and working in about 30 countries, he worked for an extended period in Indonesia, Tunisia, and Romania.
Mr. Bourque lives in Bouctouche, New Brunswick, where he has a strong record of community service.
