Fredericton – The New Brunswick Liberal Association held a nomination convention Tuesday night for the next provincial election on September 24, 2018. Amber Bishop was nominated as the Liberal candidate for Fredericton-York.

Premier Brian Gallant, who is also Leader of the New Brunswick Liberal Party, was present at the nomination and commended Bishop on her community engagement in the riding. “Amber Bishop has shown great leadership and compassion as an educator here in Fredericton and across the region. Her grasp of the issues and her love of the Fredericton region will make her a great part of our Liberal team as we focus on the economy, education and health care,” said Gallant.

Amber Bishop grew up in Marysville. As a young girl, she became a lead performer with Characters Incorporated, an international song and dance ensemble who quickly became ambassadors of New Brunswick and Canada. Amber went on to study classical music and sing internationally. As an artist, Amber was successful at being self-employed due to the values learned growing up in a family who were self-made entrepreneurs. She then made an intentional decision to return to New Brunswick to pursue a career in education. For over a decade, Amber has taught in rural schools across the province. She has worked as a teacher, a department lead, a vice-principal and, now, principal of a rural school. With a family of her own, Amber wants a thriving New Brunswick for her children.

Amber Bishop said she was honoured to receive the endorsement from the members of Fredericton-York. “We need a strong Liberal voice at the table to advance the priorities of the people of Fredericton-York as we join the next Liberal government in advancing economic development, education and health care,” said Bishop.

This nomination brings the party closer to its goal that women make up half of the candidates nominated in unheld ridings in the next provincial election. 13 of the 26 currently nominated candidates in those ridings are women.

The list of official contestants for nominations is available on the New Brunswick Liberal Party’s website at nbliberal.ca.
