John B. Ames– Charlotte-Campobello
Minister of Tourism, Heritage and Culture
John Ames was first elected to the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick on September 22, 2014, and was sworn in on October 24, 2014. He represents the riding of Charlotte-Campobello.
Mr. Ames is the former Deputy Mayor of St. Stephen, Chairman of the Planning, Promotion and Tourism Board, and Vice President of Charlotte County Alternative Transportation Association, situated in his riding’s largest municipality, St. Stephen, where he continues to reside.
He holds an undergraduate degree in political science from the University of New Brunswick and a concentration of secondary social studies methods in education through the University of Maine, where he studied to become a High School teacher. Mr. Ames has worked at all levels of public education in New Brunswick, the majority of his teaching experience being at St. Stephen High School.
Mr. Ames has spent a considerable amount of time working with various local and regional committees, volunteer associations and coaching an array of sports teams. His dedication and passion towards his community pour into international interests. He collaborates with community organizers and political representatives in Maine frequently. He is credited with reviving the Canadian contingent of the International Homecoming Festival, an event in the Saint Croix International valley that has unified Canada and the United States for over 40 years.
