Daniel Guitard nominated as Liberal candidate in Restigouche-Chaleur

SEPTEMBER 19, 2017
PETIT-ROCHER – The New Brunswick Liberal Association held a nomination convention Wednesday night for the next provincial election on September 24, 2018.  Daniel Guitard was nominated as the Liberal candidate for Restigouche-Chaleur in an uncontested meeting.  Guitard is the current MLA for Restigouche-Chaleur.

Premier Brian Gallant, who is also Leader of the New Brunswick Liberal Party, was present at the nomination and commended Guitard on his work for the riding. “Daniel’s political experience has proven invaluable to the many leadership roles he has taken on within the Liberal caucus, including caucus chair. I have no doubt that he will continue to be a strong voice for the Chaleur region,” said Gallant.

Daniel Guitard was first elected to the Legislative Assembly on September 22, 2014, as member for the Restigouche-Chaleur riding. He was Deputy Government Whip. In June 2016, he was appointed Chair of the Government Caucus and a member of the Jobs Board. He is also Vice-Chair of the Standing Committee on Economic Policy and the Standing Committee on Private Bills and a member of the Legislative Administration Committee, the Standing Committee on Procedure, Privileges and Legislative Officers, and the Standing Committee on Public Accounts.
Guitard’s political career began in the eighties, when he became a Pointe-Verte municipal councillor. In October 2006, he became executive assistant to Roland Haché, Minister of the Environment and later Minister of Education. Mr. Guitard was elected Mayor of Pointe-Verte in the May 2012 municipal election.

Daniel Guitard said he was honoured to receive the uncontested endorsement from Restigouche-Chaleur. “We are getting things done for Restigouche-Chaleur, and it is with great pride that I hope to continue to represent the people of this region,” said Guitard.

The list of official contestants for nominations are available on the New Brunswick Liberal Party’s website at nbliberal.ca.
