MONCTON – The New Brunswick Liberal Association held a nomination convention Wednesday night for the next provincial election on September 24, 2018.  Susy Campos was nominated as the Liberal candidate for Moncton Southwest in an uncontested meeting.

 

Premier Brian Gallant, who is also Leader of the New Brunswick Liberal Party, was present at the nomination and commended Campos on her professional accomplishments and community involvement. “Susy is a an entrepreneur who gives back to her community by volunteering with many great organizations across Greater Moncton. ”

 

Campos is President and CEO of Community Grants Associates Inc., a consulting firm focusing on developing different funding strategies for non-profit organizations, colleges and universities, cities and counties. Her expertise includes, among other areas, programs involving education, health, transportation, economic development, domestic violence, human rights and social service programs. Campos came to Canada at the age of 12 with her mother as a refugee from war-torn Nicaragua, settling in Hamilton, Ont. She has lived in Moncton since 2001.  A member of the very active Moncton West and Riverview Rotary Club since 2009, she is the club’s past president has been recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow three times. As well, she has been involved in many local community boards and committees, including: board member of the Moncton Headstart Foundation; lay representative board member for the New Brunswick Society of Medical Laboratory Technologists (NBSMLT); board member for the Greater Moncton SPCA; board member and vice-president for Greater Moncton Big Brothers Big Sisters; fundraising committee member for the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB); fundraising campaign cabinet member for Moncton Youth Residences (now Youth Impact); committee member for the Daffodil Ball gala fundraiser for the New Brunswick Division of the Canadian Cancer Society; and a volunteer instructor for the Greater Moncton YMCA.

 

Campos holds a master’s degree in international relations and political theory from McMaster University in Hamilton and an MBA from the Université de Moncton. She also holds a combined honours degree in political science and history from McMaster University.

 

Susy Campos said she was honoured to receive the uncontested endorsement from the Moncton Southwest Liberal Association. “We all know that services to children, education, jobs and economic development are interrelated.” said Campos.  “I feel that Moncton Southwest can bring a new perspective to the discussion table in order to deliver investment, action and progress.  I’m hoping for the opportunity to address these issues on behalf of the people of Moncton Southwest.”

 

With Campos’ nomination, the party is now closer to its goal that women make up 50% of the candidates nominated in unheld ridings in the next provincial election.  All three nominated candidates in those ridings are women.
