ST. GEORGE – The New Brunswick Liberal Association held a nomination convention Tuesday night for the next provincial election on September 24, 2018. Rick Doucet was nominated as the Liberal candidate for Fundy-The Isles-Saint John West in an uncontested meeting. Doucet is the current MLA for Fundy-The Isles-Saint John West.

 

Premier Brian Gallant, who is also Leader of the New Brunswick Liberal Party, was present at the nomination and commended Doucet on his work for the riding “Rick Doucet has been a driving force of our economic development success over the last three years. He works hard for the people he represents and to advance all the important portfolios he is responsible for” said Gallant.

 

Rick Doucet was first elected to the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick in the June 9, 2003, provincial election. He was re-elected on September 18, 2006, and served as Minister of Fisheries. On September 27, 2010, he was re-elected for a third term and was the official Opposition Critic for matters related to Transportation and Infrastructure, and later in his term, Energy.

 

He was re-elected to the 58th Legislature in the provincial election held September 22, 2014. On October 7, 2014, he was sworn in as Minister of Economic Development and Minister of Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries, as well as Minister responsible for Opportunities NB and for Trade Policy.

 

Born in Sussex, Mr. Doucet is a graduate of Rothesay Collegiate School and Holland College, in Business. He worked in the airline industry, gaining experience in areas from sales to the flight deck, before returning to New Brunswick to work in the family retail business. As a business person, he was also involved in the food service industry, operated an advertising agency, and provided flight tours. Mr. Doucet is a past member of St. George town council, president of the St. George Rotary Club, and a member of the RCS Netherwood Board of Directors.

 

Rick Doucet said he was honoured to receive the uncontested endorsement from Fundy-The Isles-Saint John West. “Representing the wonderful people of Fundy-The Isles-Saint John West has been an honour and a privilege.  I very much appreciate the opportunity to proudly continue to the great work we are doing in our riding” said Doucet.
